Your ring should fit on your finger not too tight, not too loose. You should be able to fit the ring over the largest part of your finger. Keeping in mind; it is really important to check your ring size more than once. Your fingers will swell in warmer weather and vice-versa. Check your size on a cold day and again on a warmer day.
Another method is to measure the circumference of your finger. You can use this table for this:
